MediaTek: Manufacturer Forgot Closing the "Door" KitKat Android 4.4 Smartphone Security

MediaTek: Manufacturer Forgot Closing the "Door" KitKat Android 4.4 Smartphone Security - Smartphone from some mobile phone manufacturers have a wide-open security holes because of errors vendors who forgot to close the security door.

Gadget Column - Some people reported a problem on smartphones running X10 chipset Helio primarily on Wi-Fi and brick. While MediaTek chipset does not specify where in question, but the company confirmed the smartphone chipset they have a security hole wide open.

This gap is in smartphones that use MediaTek chipset, which is a mobile phone that uses Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Mentioned MediaTek chipset features the "debug" (to be more easily understood, let's call it the "door") that must be activated / opened while undergoing interoperability testing.

"Door" after testing is completed or before it began to be delivered must be closed again. But apparently some manufacturers forgot to close the "door" so that a gap is wide open on the smartphone.

This information itself previously reported by security researcher Justin Case earlier this month. This gap has the potential to become an easy target for an attacker to gain root access to the device. If the smartphone has been compromised, then the attacker can get the user's data or applications are protected, spy on users, monitor the communications and make the smartphone brick.

Unfortunately, MediaTek did not give further details of how to close the gap, and whether MediaTek will be responsible or not over the gap on the phone belonging to several manufacturers. But the company said that they had warned the mobile phone manufacturers will be this problem.
