Samsung Will Begin Mass Production of 14nm FinFET Chip Based Third Generation Technology

Samsung Will Begin Mass Production of 14nm FinFET Chip Based Third Generation Technology - Samsung continues to develop the technology that is used to manufacture chips. In fact, this company is ready to mass produce chips with 14nm FinFET process of the third generation.

Gadget Column - So far, Samsung became the company move forward with semiconductor technology. After becoming the first company to apply the 14nm FinFET process, the South Korean company then announced the second-generation 14nm FinFET known as Low Power Plus (LPP). Of course, increasing the technology will decrease the consumption power and cost of production.

But apparently, Samsung is also ready with 14nm FinFET third generation technology. According to information reported by SamMobile, Thursday (21/01/2016) Samsung will begin mass producing the chips are made based on the technology of the third generation 14nm FinFET. This technology will reduce power consumption by up to 15% compared to chips made using 14nm process first generation (LPE).

"We will develop a process that will follow the derivative Gen.2 14-nano process and market leading mobile chips and foundries," said Bae Young-chang, Vice President, Team Marketing Strategy Department, System LSI Samsung.

Even so, this third-generation 14nm process will not be used to produce chipsets Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and Samsung's own Exynos 8890. Both chipsets will still be produced using 14nm FinFET process of second generation (LPP).
