Developer Success Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Nexus S

Developer Success Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Nexus S - A developer managed to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Nexus S old owned by Google and Samsung. Something which is believed by many as impossible due to hardware limitations of the mobile phone, especially memory.

Nexus S, Google's old smartphone and Samsung first released the end of 2010 using the operating system Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This phone get last update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in October 2012. Since then, Google stop its software updates.

As the old phones, the specifications would be very low. This phone only has a single-core processor from Qualcomm 1GHz Hummingbird with clock and 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory. While the screen is AMOLED covers only 4 inches with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. With specs like this not many people believe Android M can run on Nexus S.

However, according to information reported by PhoneArena, Wednesday (11/11/2015), a developer named Dmitry Grinberg successfully installed the Android M to the mobile phone. The trick is to swap the memory partitions that exist on the Nexus S. As most of you know that unlike most modern Android phones that have a single partition, older Android phones like Nexus S have two partitions each of which with a capacity of 15GB is used to store various files belonging to the user, and 1GB of other partitions for the operating system.

So, Grinberg became 1GB swap partition to store user files and 15GB for the operating system. As a result, Android 6.0 Marshmallow that has a large file can be installed on the Nexus S.
